Almost there already Wayne. haha

Another secret hint... Dempster pullout tube washers ( on the lower end) are a great fit for 6 ft Aermotor turntable spacers. See guys? Don't throw ANYTHING away. haha

I've never tried the cutting torch; I was afraid I'd trash the pipe threads in the casting. My experience is that if the pipe breaks off up inside the hand pump, it is often flush with the end of the casting threads. I have gotten a several of these out by making a long holder that holds a hacksaw blade and slowly, by hand, sawing a slot in the chunk of pipe. Then I use a long rod with a chisel ground on one end to pry the pipe threads in, away from the housing threads.

Well sure as heck, I broke the pipe off up inside the pump.
Windy, how are you reaching those threads with a torch??? You must be talking a pump with removable spigot (which I don't have). I guess I will have to take LoTec's approach.
Thanks,
Ed

I am reaching the threads through the spigot opening. (which you don't have.) Man are you in for a long job. Try it next winter when there's nothing else to do.

IF there is any of the pipe protruding from the hole it is screwed into,Muritic Acid(from the lumber yard) will eat out the rust and the galvanize and won;t bother the cast iron..Soak outside the broke pipe. IF available after keeping the area wet with acid for awhile, taper a piece of 1/2 by 2 inch plate to drive into the pipe welded onto a pipe or other material and try screwing the broke pipe out. I use this acid on broke ,rusty bolts all the time. Use the acid outside and be sure you keep a lid on the container. The fumes will put a layer of rust on EVERYTHING in the shop. I would try a good soak in water befoe using any other method. That worked on an Aermotor mast pipe that was rusted in.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That is a good idea Paul. I had actually soaked around the outside of the pipe in phosphoric acid (aka milk stone cleaner). I did not soak long enough or the pipe was just too weak.

I will figure out a way to give it some more soak time (tougher now that pipe broke). And fashion an extractor as you describe.

Ed

I like the idea of the extractor. Useful for other things as well.
