Hand pump pipe
Hand pump pipe
Hi all, Im looking for any tips or tricks to get broken pipe out from inside a hand pump. I already tried cussi'n and crying - didnt seem to really help much. Thanks
Re: Hand pump pipe
I've gotten a few of those out by working thru the valve opening with a torch and cutting a slot in the threads then taking a rod and chiseling the stub out. All the ones I've done were pipes that had broken off.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.
Re: Hand pump pipe
I've got one to work on as well. Mine is close enough to the bottom that hopefully I can reach it with a mig torch and weld an extension. Then hopefully turn the pipe off, or break it off farther up inside.
Thanks,

Maybe you'll get lucky and break it off. Then YOU can post a question about how to get it out, and be in the
'broke stub' club. lol

Re: Hand pump pipe
That's pretty stout around there in the middle, plus the torch is not in there very long. Just long enough to get a slit cut in the broken pipe.
I think you'll be just fine.

Re: Hand pump pipe
I have had pretty good luck in blowing steel out of cast iron with a torch, I usually grind a little hook on a chisel so once I make a slot I can curl it out. Sometimes, if I can't and the pipe is still pretty good, I reach in with a stick welder and put a bead on the inside of the pipe, the heat curls it up from the heat and away from the cast iron.
