Anchor posts specifications

Post by Jim Corcoran »

This is my first time at putting together a windmill tower and am in need of anchor posts to fit my 8' F&W Star 37. Can anyone provide me with the recommended dimensions so I can fabricate my own (or a good source for some already manufactured ones). The tower is 21' tall with 2" angle. I need the overall length of the anchor leg and the size of base plate (cross piece). I anticipate the dug holes to be 12" in dia. and approx 4' - 5' deep.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Jim, we use 4 foot angle from old bent-up towers. Take 2 10 inch pieces, and weld them in an T profile. Lay the anchor leg on a anvil, and hammer the end somewhat flat. Put the flat end of the leg across the double-layer of the 'foot' and weld them. Next we take and drill a 3/8 hole thru the foot and leg , and bolt them together. Scrape, grind, and blow everything clean, and coat or dip in quality oil paint, creosote, or some rust preventive. We never drill the tops until setting a tower, then we punch holes to match.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

Length 5', same size angle as tower. We use 200# of fast set in a hole so we punch the anchor angle for 5/8 hole and put rebar in. Unattached rebar can accommodate anchor holes being off some so you dont have to fight with it
