The E is an open gear and was replaced by the K. I remember someone having the production years of the various open gear models, but I can’t find it.

What I was thinking about that I had seen was production years for the 10’ X & J models, not the 8’ E. However the E is found on the same literature as the X and the X was produced from about 1900 to 1908.

Michael i checked my litterateur and couldn't find anything on a model E. If you find something please share, Is the E for the size of the Mill?

Dan,

Correct, the size of the mill is by the letter:
V = 5’
E or K or S = 8’
(I’ve never seen an S, but I have a few wheel sections that I think go to an S)
X or J = 10’
H = 12’

There might be others, but the above is all that currently comes to mind.

The windmillers Bible says on page 136. The first of the Monitor Steel windmills in 1898 were the ten-foot Style D and the eight-foot Style E.
