Thanks for the comments and recommendations on oil. I have not been able to find any information on a specific capacity nor did I find anything in the gearbox that indicated a fluid level. So would it be safe to assume that 2 quarts would be adequate?

I am not sure about putting this idea into production as I don't even know if its going to work yet! Ha!

The next question I have for you all is what to do with the wheel. I believe I have a Heller Aller wheel but it looks like it needs a lot of work. It would definitely need new sails, and some of the tabs for bolting the sections together are missing. I have the skills to weld new tabs on the sections to bolt them back together. But would it be worth putting on new sails and how difficult is it? The majority of the sail brackets are in decent condition but some have enough rust that I question their integrity.

I am looking for your opinions on which direction to go with this, rebuild or replace? If rebuilding is recommended where would be the best place to find new sails? If replacing is an option, are new complete wheels available and who would you recommend getting one from?

Finally, no matter which direction I go with the wheel I would need wheel arms. The ones I have from the previous wheel do not line up with the Heller Aller wheel. From the research that I have done it looks like the inner wheel arms are flat stock steel from the hub that bolt between each wheel section. For the outer arms it looks like a piece of angle iron from the outer hub mounting holes to nearly the end of the flat stock running between each section. Would there be any members out there that have a set for sale or would anybody be willing to give me the measurements for the flat stock and angle to make my own? It would be nice to know the flat stock and angle iron thickness, width and distance between bolt holes, etc. if I were to build my own.

Please see the pictures and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks all,
MOD 8

That's right. Dan can make anything if he has a pattern to start with.
