Fellow members,
I am putting together my Fairbanks WG mill and need some info
and a photo or two to show placement of these parts.
What am I missing if anything from the parts shown to enable
the head to fit on the tower? I will be using a Flint and Walling tower
that had an adapted power head made with the what appears to be a
rear end from an old Model A truck. I had posted photos of that unit on its
tower in an earlier post. There are no numbers anywhere on the rear end to
reference what make or year. It was missing the hub and was not found
on the ground. All the vanes and wheel spokes were found most needing some
work.
I am trading my Fairbanks for all the parts from the power mill in the hope
that in time I might be able to get the missing part and get it up and running.

No rush. This mill has been sitting for 13 years and finally found
some one that can use it on a nearby farm for display only.

Here are the tower tops. one bolts on top of the other. The top one fits 3 or 4 legged towers. The red one goes over the legs. Where the bolt holes are, is where you notch the 2 legs, and use a plow bolt from the inside out. it spreads the legs, as the head is square. Probably a 1/2 inch shank on the bolt.
The one in the middle bolts on top. Then the head sits in there either on a washer (with grease for a "turntable" ) or not. I would see if a person could put some small balls in the turntable instead of the washer, I don't see how the balls could fall out, even though there is no real raceway. The little casting on the right is for another kind of tower, maybe a wood one...?
Tough shot here. The mill is on a trailer with a bunch more on top. You can see the plow bolt. The legs may overlap each other in the casting.
Between the bottom of the head, and the top of the tower casting, is where a anti-friction washer goes. (or not) This is where I think a person can put balls into. Like maybe 1/2 inch balls. The lip will keep them in I think. ( I've gotten into a lot of trouble before by thinking)
This goes on the end of the neckpipe. It's a guide for the pumprod / Pullout wire. It's like a 1/4 inch rod with a swivel up in the neckpipe. Really cheezy setup for the pullout.
So it looks like you have a lot of what you need, and some of what you don't.

Seems to me all three fittings were on the neck pipe. Don`t see how they could have
been for the mill. I have some idea that might work. Have to work with what I have.
I am thinking that the first fitting with 4 slots for the four carriage bolts in the picture could
be bolted inside the tower where it would fit tight to the tower angles. It would act
similar to an Aermotor neck pipe base. The second matching piece would be inverted to
ride on bearings and would need maybe a hardened washer to accept wear. That piece
would need to be secured to the bottom of the head to prevent it from turning.
Also would have to make up a storm stay that would install just above the bottom
cap that is the pump rod guide to prevent any upward movement of the neck pipe.
With luck the stay on the Flint and Walling tower would be at the right height.
There is wear on the mast pipe indicating a storm stay.
Do you think the carriage bolts would safely hold the weight? They are 3/8 ".
Any other suggestions would be welcome.

There is nothing secured to the bottom of the head. You could use the smaller notched piece for the storm stay I suppose. The bottom of the head rides on the washer in the casting.
