Woodmanse Questions

I am still rebuilding my 8' woodmanse, but have a few questions, I'll attach a few pictures to go with the questions.
1. There is part of a Windlass, not sure what it does, but I think it was a "winch" to pull, or "furl" the tail over and set the brake?
2. For the Windlass, what parts is it missing, ad where can I get those?
3. There are 4 "hooks" bolted to the tower, what are they for? My guess is they are "guides" for the brake wire?
Two are mounted on one side of the tower, closer to the top, and two are mounted on a cross-member lower on the tower.
4. If not wire guides what are they? If they are, what keeps the wire in them?
5. On the Woodmanse, the pumping-shaft, and the brake-connecting-rod both come down center-mast pipe.
So as the head spins different directions what keeps the brake wire/cable from wraping around the wooden
pump shaft?
