Justin congrats on your purchase. If it's a early 602 more than likely it'll have 502 guts. I have Three Early 602s with 502 guts and one with the oil flipper and yoke. Haven't figured that one out when it was a failure.🤔

Thanks Dan,
I haven't opened up the gearbox yet. It's a blizzard so will wait until weather gets nicer. So fun fact on the 502 failure, Aermotor had the 602 changes and drawings in their shop May of 1914 (date on the original blue print) before the 502 even came out. So they must have known the 502 wasn't a great design before they even put it into production.
Also on the oil flipper that was phased out at different times depending on size of gearbox. I took down a 1918 D602 that had an oil flipper. Not exactly sure on 8' boxes but was before that. I've had several '18's that had the ring.

I believe Michael has either a 10 or 12ft 602 with the oil flipper.

I have an A602 and a B602 with oil flippers. Both with very little babbit wear. The A602 sort of depends on the orientation of the hub/shaft as I think it said 918 or if you rotate it, it reads 816. I think Ron ended up saying it would have been 1916. It came on a trussed tripod tower.

The B602 was 318.

Both had a spiral oil feed on the main gear boss and the brass stamped snoot washer.

Mike,

Yes the A602 was originally from Weimar, TX. It had the owner’s name and Weimar, Texas stenciled on the trussed tripod tower, vane, and tailbone.

The B602 with flipper came with another complete B602 that my brother-in-law has up. They came from the Burnet area. The B602 with the flipper was just a spare gearbox in that transaction that was given to me. The B602 that my brother-in-law has up is an early 602, but I do not recall seeing a flipper hole in the hoop. His B602 is on an old four post tower with those hated slotted bolts.

Justin - looks like you got you a nice tower. Congratulations.
