Kenneth, I forgot to bring scales to the shop, but here are the dimensions. It has a set screw to hold the weight on the pipe and it is 1/2”-13 NC threads

Also, the pipe is 3/4” black iron pipe and it’s 42” long. It has a coupling on one end, I’m assuming to keep the weight from sliding off if the set screw was to come loose.

I built a new main shaft today. I single tooled the left handed threads on it. Just need to cut the keyway now and drill the hole for the cotter pin.

Dan, yes ,mine is a Red Star, Red Cross, Kenwood. All the same. I believe the parts are interchangeable. I read in the bible where an ex employee of F&W started the company. I have a F & W Steel Star, and the parts look identical. I think there is a few minor differences.
Mark, thanks for the dimensions. That counterweight seems big for an 8 ft. Can you show a pic of the coupling on the pipe you mentioned? I have never seen one. Thanks Kenneth

Kenneth, it is the correct weight for the 8’. I only know this because it has a part number on it and it matches the paperwork that Dan sent me

I don't have any gears. What I do have is in worse shape than yours. By the way, nice lathe work. I have a mill but no lathe yet. What lathe do you have?

A clausing colchester 15X60 and a grizzly 1440. The Clausing is a much better lathe, the grizzly is a great little machine but not a colchester.
