Currie oil bath

I have never seen a thread on a Currie oil bath gearbox rebuild so I’ll make this thread in hopes that it is informative and helps others.

This 8’ Currie was mostly complete, but parts can be difficult to locate. It has wood bearings and is a heavy gearbox and a damn heavy one piece hub. I can carry an assembled A702, 8’ Challenge 27 or a 8’ Dempster gearbox, but I’m not carrying this assembled gearbox.

This Currie came from Wayne. A few parts came from Dan B and the bonnet was made by Jimmy “Chris” Christensen. The bonnet fits perfectly.

I dry fitted this to the point that I could almost disassemble it blindfolded.

I have one that I have not been into yet. Got it from Mike Porterfield. It looks to have the original green color on it yet. I know what you mean about it being heavy. I like the looks on what you have done to that one. interesting interior for sure. Thanks.

Youre not the only one Wayne. Me too. I decided to donate my entire collection to the major county historical society to display. They came over and we went through my collection. Turns out i have more than 40 different windmill models, plus assorted other collectibles. more than i thought. I will never get my own museum built. At one time i had high hopes.

Yeah Windy Age changes our dreams. I hope the Society does justice to your collection and it doesn't end up like the one out in Portales NM. They take windmills without realizing they need TLC at times it seems.
