Older windmiller have known this for years , but it's new to me . sockets for square nuts , & if you use a battery operated drill motor the square nuts are a breeze to remove .

Good info Mike. I've not come across 4 point sockets...only 8 point....which is what I use.

I use 8 point like Paul and a cordless impact. With the impact nuts/bolts will come loose OR they will break
and then come loose. I haven’t seen modern 4 point sockets as well.

I have a set of "Wright Tool" 10 point sockets that I bought on an auction. They are for square nuts & hex nuts. In my opinion I think they fit better than 12 pt.

Wright Tools use to make 4 point sockets, nice heavy USA made, keep an eye out for them at swap meets and flea markets, they turn up, I use them all the time working on antique tractors
Grey made them also and still offer them, they call them drain plug sockets
