Re: F&W Star 37 -- 12 foot -- Crosshead. Museum breakdown.

Might get something else to fit, but I don't have the pieces. I think the windmiller in Spokane may have them. I did see a photo somewhere of that part in the 8-foot mill configuration.

F&W Star 37, 12-foot: Any inovative ideas for finding a Crosshead?

I posted this in, "Wanted," but for here I'd like to ask: If a replacement Crosshead does not turn up, anyone have an idea how to otherwise deal with finding one? It is needed for our local Museum. Their crosshead had been welded, poorly, and it shattered. It's presently running without crosshead ...

F&W Star 37 -- 12 foot -- Crosshead. Museum breakdown.

Local Museum in next town to me had a poor weld break in the crosshead of their functioning Flint & Walling Star 37. But it is a 12-foot mill. So I'm trying to help find that part for them. I've already checked with Dan B. He has none. Neither does Steve Adams. It is different from my working 10 ...

Old sale: where did these, "NOS" parts go???

I saw these for sale a year or so ago. Saved photos because I was startled by the extent of it all. A few photos attached. Seller did not name himself, just said located near, Menomonie, WI. Probably near the end of 2022.
Anyone recognize all this? What's the story on it all? Who sold it? Details ...

Re: Need grease recommendations for non-bearing storm stay use, etc.

Good. I've little experience with Lithium grease. I had some in an old grease gun, (white stuff), and it seemed rather hard, but was also old. I just wonder if it gets stiff in cold weather, like we have here at times.

Re: Need grease recommendations for non-bearing storm stay use, etc.

Thanks. Makes sense. PS: I am considering swapping out the zerk for an old fashioned grease cup. Then anyone up on the platform does not have to pack a grease gun and can just turn the cup in a bit and come down. Even thinking of a pair of cups with interchangeable cups/caps so when up there and the ...

Need grease recommendations for non-bearing storm stay use, etc.

I asked this elsewhere a while back but got no specific answers. I'll start this way: I'm getting ready to find someone to go up and grease the zerk fitting on the storm stay, "bearing," on my 10-foot F&W 37. It's, "down-pipe," is only a couple feet long or less, and the bottom goes through a solid ...

Re: Spray can, "Cold Galvanizing." Not sure about this one. Thoughts?

I admire RPinAZ's devotion to his finish work. Thank you. The comments so far have been very helpful. I think mine will turn out OK. It was assembled from various genuine tower pieces, so they show variations. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I feel the same - so we'll match. (G)

Thank you all for the tips. I'll try some of that Hammer Tone in Silver.

Spray can, "Cold Galvanizing." Not sure about this one. Thoughts?

Someone on one of our forums recommended this: "Rust-Oleum Cold Galvanizing Compound," in the spray can. Can says, "contains 93% pure zinc." That much zinc sounded promising. I got some. Tried it today. It handles and goes on no differently than other spray paints. However, rather than the result ...
